This is the first book ever published on the birds of the British Channel Island of Alderney. It covers more than 130 years of recording, from published and unpublished sources, including records from over 100 amateur observers. Less than four miles by one and a half miles in size, the small island of Alderney is an important stopover for migrating birds. It also has important seabird populations. The book is divided into several sections. A general description of Alderney introduces the reader to the island and its birds. A section on ornithology in Alderney describes some of the personalities who have contributed to our knowledge of Alderney's birds over the years. The main section is the systematic List, which gives the status of every species of bird recorded on Alderney, as far as is known. Sketches of Alderney's birds show some of the more common birds in their natural settings.
